7x + y = -8 (1st)

3x + y = -6 (2nd)

Subtract (2nd) equation 3x + y = -6 from (1st) equation 7x + y = -8

7x + y = -8 (1st)

3x + y = -6 (2nd)

-----------------------------subtract

4x = -2

x = -1/2

Substitute x = -1/2 into 3x + y = -6

3(-1/2) + y = -6

-3/2 + y = -6

y = -12/2 + 3/2

y = -9/2

Solution: (-1/2, -9/2)

Answer
