Solve x by simplifying both sides of the equation, then isolating the variable.

x = -11

2(x - 4) = 3(1 + x) \\ 2x - 8 = 3 + 3x \\ - 8 - 3 = 3x - 2x \\ x = - 11
first expand the brackets (multiply) then, put the unknowns at one place. hope thus helps
