The Gupta Empire was an ancient Indian empire which covered much of the Indian subcontinent from the mid-to-late 3rd century to 590.
This Gupta Empire period is called by some historians as the Golden Age of India for several reasons. First, due to the great cultural developments which took place during this era such as the Puranas, that were long poems on a variety of subjects. In addition, in this period were also achieved rises in sculpture, painting and architecture that in a way contributed to set standards that determined the subsequent course of art either in India or beyond her borders.
