Here you go, hope it's right. The top one is the equation and the bottom one is the work to get the answer.

Answer:

4(5)/(8) inches

Explanation:

Let initial length of the plant was "x" inches.

Plant grew
2(5)/(8) inches or
(21)/(8) inches per month.

So after one month height of the plant =
(x+21)/(8) inches

Height of the plant after one month =
7(1)/(4) or
(29)/(4) inches

So expression will be

(x+21)/(8) =
(29)/(4)

We further solve it x =
(29)/(4) -
(21)/(8)

=
(58-21)/(8)

=
(37)/(8)

or x =
4(5)/(8) inches

therefore, initial of the plant was
4(5)/(8) inches height.
