a field that is ½ by ½ has an area of ½*½ or namely ¼.

now, the farmer has 1 m² of land, if he divides it in ½ by ½ plots, how many of those plots will there be? namely how many times ¼ goes into 1?

\bf 1/ \cfrac{1}{4}\implies 1\cdot \cfrac{4}{1}\implies 4
