Christopher Columbus sailed in 1492 from Spain to find a route to Asia and the Indies instead finding the New World-‘the Americas’

To try to find a quicker way to Asia for trading than the Silk Road. That's why the Native Americans were called Indians, because Columbus thought he was in Asia and that they were actually Indians.
