Hey there!

To find our sum, we will want to find a common denominator. To do so, we will find the LCM (Least Common Multiple) of our two denominators.

3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24

8, 16, 24

As you can see, the first number these two denominators have in common is 24. First of all, we change 1/3 to have a denominator of 24.

(1)/(3) =(8)/(24) (We multiply top and bottom by 8)

Now, let's convert 3/8 in 24ths.

(3)/(8) =(9)/(24) (We multiply top and bottom by 3)

Now, we add up our two fractions.

(8)/(24) +(9)/(24) =(17)/(24)

As you can see, our answer is already in simplest form, as there is no common factor except for 1.

Therefore, our answer is 17/24.

I hope this helps!
