The distance between the points is 16 units. This is because the right point is 14 units from the origin or 0, and the left point is 2 units away from the origin.

Add these together and you get 16

To find the distance you can subtract the smaller number (the point that's on the left; numbers decrease as you go left on a number line) from the larger number.

Our points are 14 and -2. Subtract -2 from 14.

14 - (-2)

14 + 2 (two minuses equal a plus)

16

You can also determine this by counting by twos the number of ticks between the two points (since they increase/decrease by 2).

Answer:

16 units
