Adam is building a rectangular swimming pool. The perimeter of the pool must be no more than 120 feet. If the length of the pool is 22 feet, write and solve an inequality that represents what the width of the pool must be.

The perimeter of a rectangle is given by the formula

... P = 2(L + W)

You want a perimeter that is less than or equal to 120 ft, with L = 22 ft. Fill in these values and write the relation:

... 2(22 ft + W) ≤ 120 ft . . . . an inequality representing what the width must be

... 22 ft + W ≤ 60 ft

... W ≤ 38 ft . . . . . . . . . . . . . the solution to the inequality

The width must be no more than 38 feet.

Hello!

Let's write this as an inequality below.

44+2w≤120

First, we subtract 44 from both sides.

2w≤76

We divide both sides by 2.

w ≤ 38

I hope this helps!
