Why was Arabia an unknown world for most of record history

Arabian empire was certainly not known by other countries simply because of some factors. The landscape, population and scarcity of resources.

In the early seventeen century, one of the most important events that took place in the deep interior of the Arab peninsular is the introduction of Islam into Arabia. Prophet Mohammed brought Islam into Arab and this led to the unity between the warring Arab tribes.

Having found succor in the religion, the Arab armies took it upon themselves and spread the world of Islam. The invasion of surrounding lands by Arab armies gave birth to the one of the largest empire in history, The Arab Empire.

However, the empire was not known to the rest of the world because there way of life was totally Islamic and some other factors which include

1. Landscape: The Arabia Empire is surrounded by deserts with no clear border line, so people took no interest in the empire. Not that the empire wasn’t known, but little details the empire were available.
2. Population: though the population has risen as of today but as at the time the empire was created the population was very small and the Arabian were predominantly nomadic.
3. Scarcity of resources: Arabia at that time didn’t have resources that could attract people into the empire. There was scarcity of water. In fact till today, Saudi Arabia has no permanent river in its borders.

For most of the recorded history, or more specifically till around the period of the expansion of the Arabian Empire, it was a relative unknown for most of the the other countries. It is not that the others didn't knew the region, but the region was not of interest of any of the other countries so it was left mostly unexplored. This was due to several reasons:

- The landscape; it was and still is a desert dominated region, so it was dangerous and unattractive for most people.

- The population; there was a very small population which was predominantly nomadic so it was not of great use for the foreign countries.

- Scarcity of resources; Arabia lacked any significant resources that can increase an interest in the region, and the biggest problem of all was the lack of water since the Arabian Peninsula doesn't have a single constant river flow.
