What happens to the arrangement of water molecules as ice melts

In a frozen, solid state, the water molecules are arranged in a lattice and vibrate against each other.
When heat is applied to the ice, it provides energy for these water molecules. Thus, they begin to break from the fixed structure and can flow and move around each other, in a liquid state.
