If you roll three 4-sided dice, how many possible outcomes are there?

For each outcome on the first die, there are 4 outcomes on the second die, so two dice will have 4×4 = 16 outcomes. For each of those, there will be 4 outcomes on the third die, so the total number of outcomes is

... 4×4×4 = 4³ = 64
