The outermost layer of the epidermis comprises 25 to 30 layers of dead cells. The stratum corneum is the outermost layer of the epidermis, comprising of dead cell, that is, corneocytes. This layer comprises 15 to 20 layers of flattened cells with no cell organelles and nuclei, their cytoplasm exhibits filamentous keratin.
