△BCD is translated to become △B′C′D′ .

△BCD has coordinates B(4, 2) , C(6, 2) , and D(6, 5) .

 △B′C′D′ has coordinates B′(2, 1) , C′(4, 1) , and D′(4, 4) .

Which answer describes the translation?

vertical translation of 1 followed by a horizontal translation of 2

horizontal translation of −1 followed by a vertical translation of −2

horizontal translation of −2 followed by a vertical translation of −1

vertical translation of 2 followed by a horizontal translation of 1

translated to the left 2 units and down 1 unit

x =horizontal, y = vertical

The first number is parentheses is the X coordinate which would be the horizontal alignment.

The 2nd number is the Y coordinate, which would be the vertical alignment.

Looking at the X coordinates for B, C, and D, the translated numbers become smaller by 2 ( 4-2 = 2, 6-4 = 2) this means the triangle moves 2 places to the left, which is a -2 change.

The y values become smaller by 1 ( 2-1 = 1, 5-4 = 1) so this would be a shift in the vertical position by -1.

The correct answer is:

horizontal translation of −2 followed by a vertical translation of −1
