(a) the temperature on a warm summer day is 87 °f. what is the temperature in °c? (b) many scientific data are reported at 25 °c. what is this temperature in kelvins and in degrees fahrenheit? (c) suppose that a recipe calls for an oven temperature of 400 °f. convert this temperature to degrees celsius and to kelvins. (d) liquid nitrogen boils at 77 k. convert this temperature to degrees fahrenheit and to degrees celsius.

Answer :

(a) The temperature in degree Celsius is,
30.5^oC

(b) The temperature in Kelvin and in degree Fahrenheit is, 298K and
77^oF respectively.

(c) The temperature in degree Celsius and Kelvin is,
204.4^oC and 477.4 K respectively.

(d) The temperature in degree Fahrenheit and Celsius is,
-320.8^oF and
-196^oC respectively.

Explanation :

The conversion used for the temperature from Fahrenheit to degree Celsius is:

^oC=(^oF-32)* (5)/(9)

where,

^oF = temperature in Fahrenheit

^oC = temperature in centigrade

The conversion used for the temperature from degree Celsius to Kelvin is:

K=273+^oC

where,

K = temperature in Kelvin

^oC = temperature in centigrade

(a) As we are given the temperature in Fahrenheit is,
87^oF

Now we have to determine the temperature in degree Celsius.

^oC=(^oF-32)* (5)/(9)

^oC=(87^oF-32)* (5)/(9)

^oC=30.5

(b) As we are given the temperature in degree Celsius is,
25^oC

Now we have to determine the temperature in Kelvin.

K=273+^oC

K=273+25

K=298

Now we have to determine the temperature in degree Fahrenheit.

^oC=(^oF-32)* (5)/(9)

25^oC=(^oF-32)* (5)/(9)

^oF=77

(c) As we are given the temperature in Fahrenheit is,
400^oF

Now we have to determine the temperature in degree Celsius.

^oC=(^oF-32)* (5)/(9)

^oC=(400^oF-32)* (5)/(9)

^oC=204.4

Now we have to determine the temperature in Kelvin.

K=273+^oC

K=273+204.4

K=477.4

(d) As we are given the temperature in Kelvin, 77 K

Now we have to determine the temperature in degree Celsius.

K=273+^oC

77=273+^oC

^oC=-196

Now we have to determine the temperature in degree Fahrenheit.

^oC=(^oF-32)* (5)/(9)

-196^oC=(^oF-32)* (5)/(9)

^oF=-320.8

a. T = 87 F0

Temperature can be converted to celcius as follows:

F = (9 /5) C + 32

87 = (9 /5) C + 32

C = 30.55 C0

b. T = 25 C0

Temperature can be converted to kelvin as follows:

K = C + 273.15

= 30.55 + 273.15 = 303.7 K

F = (9 /5) C + 32

F = (9 /5) (25) + 32 = 77 F

c. T = 400 F

400 = (9 /5) C + 32

C = 204.44 C0

K = C + 273.15

K = 204.44 + 273.15 = 477.59 K

d . T = 77 K

77 K = C + 273.15

C = - 196.15 C0

F = (9 /5) C + 32

F = (9 /5) (- 196.15) + 32 = -321.07 F
