To find the total weight of the two packages, we must find the sum of the two individual packages. To do this, we need to convert the mixed number weights into improper fractions, by multiplying the unit value (whole number) by the denominator and then adding the numerator.

6 2/3 = 6(3) + 2 = 18 + 2 = 20/3

2 1/4 = 2(4) + 1 + 8 + 1 = 9/4

Now, our expression appears as follows

20/3 + 9/4

To be able to add these improper fractions, we must find a common denominator. In this example, we are going to use 12 as the common denominator, because it is the least common multiple of 3 and 4. To make this denominator, we are going to multiply by fractions that are equivalent to 1 (changing the numerator and denominator by the same factor doesn't change the value of the fraction overall).

9/4 * 3/3 = 27/12

20/3 * 4/4 = 80/12

Now, our expression is:

27/12 + 80/12 =

107/12

Therefore, your answer is 107/12, or 8 11/12.

Hope this helps!
