Somewhat confusing however i will do my best to help.

A denominator of a fraction is the bottom number/number on the right/number you divide by. A numerator is the top number/number on the left/number getting divided.

2 1/2 can be simplified to be 5/2 or 2.5

go ahead and give me a three star for this, but i would just put 2.5 or 2 1/2 because a denominator doesn't change a numerator, just the outcome.

I hope someone else will come answer for you with a more reassuring answer but i hoped i helped nonetheless.

the answer is 5/2

in this case we need to convert mixed fraction into a normal fraction ... and to make 2 1/2 a fraction we need to multiply the whole no.( in this case 2 ) with the denominator and add it with the numerator (here 1 is the numerator)

and when you do that the answer is 5 .... 2×2+1 = 5

∴numerator is 5
