Perimeter of rectangular figure is given by:

Perimeter = 2( l+ w)...............(1)

where l and w are length and width of rectangle.

We are given perimeter = 454 yards......................(2)

We are also given length is 5 yards less than triple the width.

So we have length = 3w-5....................(3)

Plugging the values of P and l from (2) and (3) in (1)

454 = 2( w + 3w-5)

454 = 2( 4w-5)

dividing both sides by 2 ,

227= 4w-5

adding 5 on the left side,

232= 4w

dividing both sides by 4

w=58

Plugging this value in equation (3) to get length,

l=3w-5 = 3(58) -5= 169

Answer:

Length is 169 yards and width is 58 yards.
