The given figure is two half circles inscribed inside a square of side 6 inch.

Diameter of half circles = 6 in

Radius of the half circles =
(6)/(2) = 3 in

The yellow region is symmetrical.

Area of the yellow region =
(1)/(2) (Area of square - 2 ( Area of half circle))

=
$(1)/(2) (side^(2) - 2 ((1)/(2) \pi radius^(2) ))$

$= (1)/(2) (6^2-2((1)/(2) \pi 3^2)\\= (1)/(2) (36-9\pi )\\= (1)/(2)(7.725)\\=3.9 in^2$
