Most importantly, the primary function of red blood cells is to transport oxygen from the lungs to the cells of the body. ... The iron in hemoglobin gives blood its red color. White blood cells (WBCs), or leukocytes, are a part of the immune system and help our bodies fight infection.

Red blood cells main function are to carry oxygen around the body, and without them, we wouldn't be classed as living. They are 'donut' shaped and have no nucleus to maximise space for the oxygen and so there can be a lot more of them.

White blood cells main function are to fight off any pathogens and bad bacteria, without them, we would have no immune system and catch viruses or disease quicker, and even the common cold would be deadly.
