We know 8/11 of the fish inside the tank have a red stripe, and that 8/11 is equivalent to 16 red-striped fish.

Now you need to set up and equation:

8/11=16/x

8(?)=16

8(2)=16

11(2)=22

8/11=16/22

There are a total of 22 fish in the tank

Then we solve for x by mutliplying by on both sides:

There are 22 total fish in the tank.

We know that
(8)/(11) of the fish have a red stripe, and we know that this amount of fish that have red stripes are 16.

So then we can set up an equation to solve for the total amount of fish that are in the tank:

(8)/(11)x=16

Then we solve for x by mutliplying by
(11)/(8) on both sides:

(11)/(8)* (8)/(11)x= (16)/(1) *(11)/(8)

x=(16*11)/(8)=(176)/(8)=22

So now we know that there are 22 total fish in the tank.
