First you gotta make them save a common denominator (im gonna go with 100) so 87/100 stays the same. 3/10 has to be multiplied by 10 so that becomes 30/100. Now you can subtract them.

Fraction: 87/100-30/100= 57/100

Decimal: .87-0.30=0.57

Let's change both numbers so that they have a common denominator. The least common factor of 100 and 10 is 100. That means 100 will be your denominator.

(87)/(100) = (87)/(100)

(3 * 10)/(10 * 10) = (30)/(100)

Now subtract:

(87)/(100) - (30)/(100) = (57)/(100)

Answer as a fraction is
(57)/(100)

To change to decimal, divide the numerator by the denominator:

57 / 100 = 0.57

Answer as a decimal is
0.57
