In which circumstance is displacement the same as distance traveled?

Well, they can never really be "the same", because displacement is a vector and distance is a scalar.

But distance and displacement can both have the same size. That happens when the travel is all in a straight line.

Answer:

The answer is when the path is a straight.

Step-by-step explanation:

First, it must be understood that the displacement is the vector that defines the position of an object from a point of origin "A" to a final position "B", that is, it is the length between the initial and the final position.

On the other hand, the distance traveled is the space traveled or can also be defined as the total length traveled along the path.

The displacement coincides with the distance traveled, given the circumstance, in which said distance traveled is a straight line path. otherwise the distance traveled will always be greater than the displacement.
