The figure is obtained by stacking together two rectangular prisms.

The large one, on the left, has dimensions 7,3 and 3 cm.

The small one, on the right, has dimensions 1, 3 and 3.

The volume of a rectangular prism is given by the product of its dimensions, so the two volumes are

V_1 = 7* 3* 3 = 63,\quad V_2 = 1* 3* 3 = 9

Since the two rectangular prisms don't intersect, the volume of the whole figure is simply the sum of the two volumes:

V_{\text{tot}} = 63+9 = 72

Volume is found by multiplying the length by the width by the height.

Using the dotted line, this can be broken down to 2 different shapes.

Find the volume for each shape then add them together.

7 x 3 x 3 = 63

3 x 3 x 1 = 9

Total volume = 63 + 9 = 72 m^3
