If we want to subtract this it would be easiest to have this in descending order of exponents. So let's rewrite:


(-3x^4+3x^3+5)-(-5x^4+x^3+4).

The subtraction sign separating those to expressions serves to change all the signs of the second expression to the opposite of what they are now. That looks like this, then:


-3x^4+3x^3+5+5x^4-x^3-4.

Notice I left off the parenthesis this time. They are no longer needed. Now we will just combine like terms in order from highest exponent to lowest and then the constant. That is


2x^4+2x^3+1. There you go!
