Emily has a bowl of raspberries and blackberries. There are 4 more raspberries than blackberries, and there are 8 berries in all. How many blackberries does Emily have?

Blackberries : x

Raspberries : x + 4

Total : x + ( x + 4 ) = 8

x + x + 4 = 8

2x + 4 = 8

2x = 8 - 4 = 4

x = 4 / 2 = 2

Raspberries : 2 + 4 = 6

2 + 6 = 8
