Decomposers make up an important part of any ecosystem. Their primary role is to break down the dead and decaying matter of all the trophic levels into simple nutrients that goes back into the soil. This helps the producers in getting their nourishment. Thus, they are the recycling matter in the ecosystems. The recycling of matter indirectly benefits the primary consumers that depend on the producers for their food.
