On plane travelling 350 mph goes 1200 miles with the wind in the same amount of time that another plane going 450 mph goes 1300 against the wind. how fast is the wind blowing? enter only the numerical answer to the nearest miles per hour (mph).

Here when plane is moving in the direction of the wind we can say

`V_(plane) + v_(wind) = (distance)/(time)`

`350 mph + v_(wind) = (1200)/(t)`

now another plane is also moving against the wind

so we can say

`V_(plane) - v_(wind) = (distance)/(time)`

`450 - v_(wind) = (1300)/(t)`

Now from above two equations we will have

divide the two equations

`(350+v_(wind))/(450 - v_(wind))= (1200)/(1300)`

`4550 + 13v_(wind) = 5400 - 12v_(wind)`

`25 v_(wind) = 850`

`v_(wind) = 34 mph`
