Determine the length and midpoint of the segment whose endpoints are (–15, 9) and (–4, 11). A. length = 11.18, midpoint = (–5.5, 1) B. length = 11.18, midpoint = (–9.5, 10) C. length = 26.17, midpoint = (–5.5, 1) D. length = 26.17, midpoint = (–9.5, 10

The length is given by the distance formula

d = √((-4 - -15)^2 + (11 - 9)^2) = √(11^2 + 2^2)=√(125)=5 √(5)

So the pedantic answer is none of the above; they want us to approximate.

d \approx 11.18

The midpoint is the average of the coordinates:

\left( (-15 + -4)/(2), (9 + 11)/(2) \right) = \left( -(19)/(2), 10 \right)
