#59)

Joe: 5a + 4b = 6 (1st)

Dawn: 3a + 6b = 6.3 (2nd)

Multiply 1st equation by 3 and 2nd equation by (-5) to eliminate a

15a + 12b = 18

-15a - 30b = -31.5

------------------------------Add

-18b = - 13.5

b = 0.75

substitute b = 0.75 into 5a + 4b = 6

5a + 4(0.75) = 6

5a + 3 = 6

5a = 3

a = 0.6

Answer: Apple cost 60 cents each and banana cost 75 cents each

#60)

Wesley and Brian have total 87 baseball cards.

W + B = 87

Wesley has 30 less than twice as many as Brian

W = 2B - 30 (2nd)

So

W + B = 87

2B - 30 + B = 87

3B = 117

B = 39

W + 39 = 87

W = 48

Answer: Wesley has 48 cards and Brian has 39 cards

Hope they help.
