P = 2(L + W)

40 = 2 (14 + W)

14 + W = 20

W = 6

Given the length of rectangle = 14 in

width of rectangle = w

Perimeter of rectangle = 40 inches

We know the formula for perimeter of rectangle is given by :-

Perimeter = 2·(Length + Width)

40 = 2·(14 + w)

14 + w = 20

w = 20 - 14 = 6

So, width of rectangle, w = 6 inches.
