Step 1 ) Subtract 4a from both sides.

p = b + 4a + c

p - 4a = b + 4a + c - 4a

p - 4a = b + c

Step 2 ) Subtract c from both sides.

p - 4a = b + c

p - 4a - c = b + c - c

p - 4a - c = b

Step 3 ) Switch sides.

p - 4a - c = b

b = p - 4a - c

The value of b is now in its simplest form, so the value of b in p = b + 4a + c is...

\framebox {b = p - 4a - c}

First subtract the C to move it to the other side

c-P=b+4a

Then subtract the 4a as well

4a-c-p=b
