Men would greet another man by grasping his right wrist, followed by a pat on the back with their left hand. They did this in a very suspicious way because by grasping the wrist and patting the back was to check for weapons. When women were greeting women they would grab each others shoulders and then kiss the air on each side of the check three times. But they were never, ever to touch each other’s skin. Humanism was an intellectual movement during the Renaissance that emphasized classical learning and human potential and achievements. This Renaissance thinking was reflected in the art of the period. Renaissance art became much more realistic, using a technique called perspective, giving paintings a three dimensional appearance as opposed to the two dimensional artwork from earlier times.
