Hey There,

The answer would be 128ft.

Calculate the area of each individual face and add it up in order to find the surface area.

Rectangle

6*4= 24

24 * 4 = 96

The area of each individual rectangle added together is 96 ft.

Square

4 * 4= 16

16*2= 32

The area of each individual square added together is 32 ft.

Add these two numbers together.

96 + 32 = 128

Therefore, the answer would be 128ft.

To find the amount of cardboard needed, we need to find the surface area of the box. We can do this by finding the area of each shape in the net.

All of the shapes are rectangles, the formula for the area of the rectangle is A = w*l

There are 4 similar shapes that are 4 by 6. The area of each of these shapes is 24 ft^2.

There are 2 similar shapes tht are 4 by 4. The area of each of these shapes is 16 ft^2.

Now, we need to add these areas together.

24(4) + 16(2) = SA

96 + 32 = SA

128 = SA

So, he'll need 128 ft^2 of cardboard to create the box.
