A sky diver jumps out of an airplane at a height of 5010 ft. If her parachute does not open until she reaches 1010 ft, what is her velocity (in ft/s) at that point if air resistance is neglected?

Given:

Height from which diver jumps h(i)=5010 ft

Height from which diver open the parachute h(f)=5010 ft

calculate the net height h= h(i)-h(f)

substitute the values in the above equation

h= 5010-1010= 4000 ft

calculate the velocity of the diver at the net height.


v=√(2*g*h)

here g is acceleration due to gravity = 32.2 ft per second square

h is the net height

substitute the values in the above equation


v=√(2*32.2*4000)


v=507.54 ft per second
