Burgess's hypothesis of urban growth is referred to as "concentric zone".

Ernest Burgees who was a sociologist created this model in the year 1925. Burgess was the first to represent a hypothesis concerning why certain social gatherings are situated in particular urban regions. His model depended on the city of Chicago and utilized a concentric ring to demonstrate how urban land was utilized.
