In a recent survey, 14 people found their mayor to be “very competent.” This number is exactly 20% of the people surveyed. How many people were surveyed?

Let x= number of people surveyed. If 14 is 20 percent of the number surveyed, then x(.2)=14. Divide both sides by .2 and you get 70. This means that 70 people were originally surveyed
