Your mother has a new cell phone. It comes with 18 applications already installed. She uses only "2" /"3" of those applications. She downloaded an additional 12 applications that she uses regularly. Write an equation to represent the total number of applications your mom uses. Explain your equation and your reasoning.

Answer:

The equation is:
(2)/(3) * 18 + 12

She uses 24 applications regularly

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that the phone has 18 applications already installed. We are also given that she uses only
(2)/(3) of those applications

This mean that she uses
(2)/(3) * 18 = 12 applications from the already installed ones

Now, we know that she downloaded additional 12 applications and used them

Therefore, the total number of applications she uses regularly = 12 + 12 = 24 applications

The equation would be obtained by combining the above two steps, it would give us:

number of applications =
(2)/(3) * 18 + 12

where:

(2)/(3) is the fraction used from already installed applications

18 is the number of already installed applications

12 is the number of the additional installed applications

Hope this helps :)
