people addicted to smokeless tobacco can develope think, leathery white spots in the mouth. what are these spots called?

Leukoplakia. This causes thick, white patches to form in the chewer's gum. These cannot be scraped off. Doctors don't know exactly what causes this in smokeless tabacco.
