Joel earns 1700 per month if he spends 425 on rent each month what percentage of his income does he spend on rent

We need to set up two fractions and cross multiply to find the answer.



(425)/(1700) (x)/(100)


Cross multiply.

425 x 100 = 42500

42500/1700 = 25


The answer is 25%

Divide the part from the whole.


425/1700 = 0.25


0.25 = 25/100 = 25%


25% of Joel's total income is spent on rent.
