On this day in 1942, gasoline rationing began in 17 Eastern states as an attempt to help the American war effort during world war 2.By the end of the year , president Franklin D. Roosevelt has ensured that mandatory gasoline rationing was in effect in all so states.

Rationing was a way Americans contributed to war effort. Supplies such as gasoline, butter, sugar, and canned milk were rationed because they need to be diverted to war effort. Hope this helped and made sense...
