Answer: 80 pounds

Explanation:

Let x be the amount of cashews needed to make a 400 pound cashew and peanut mix.

Then the amount of peanuts= 400-x

Now, the price of cashews before mix = 13x

the price of peanuts before mix = 8(400-x)

the price of 400 pound mix = $9(400)=$3600

According to the question:

8(400-x)+13x=3600\\\Rightarrow3200-8x+13x=3600\\\Rightarrow5x=400\\\Rightarrow\ x=80

Hence, he use 80 pounds of cashews .
