2 + 2 × 4 - 3 × 3 + 2

Use PEMDAS:

Parentheses

Exponents

Multiplication / Division

Addition / Subtraction

Multiplication/division and addition/subtraction don't go in any particular order, it goes from left to right

2 + 2 × 4 - 3 × 3 + 2

Check if there are parentheses (no), exponents (no), but there is multiplication, so solve all the multiplication from left to right.

2 + (2 × 4) - (3 × 3) + 2

2 + 8 - 9 + 2

Now solve from left to right since the rest is all subtraction.

2 + 8 - 9 + 2 = 3

2 + 2 × 4 - 3 × 3 + 2 = 3
