Mainstream media is often used to connect to a much larger group of people and it involves the thoughts and work of many different people. Independent media is known to be pretty small and the company usually doesn’t reach out very far. Mainstream media is an easy way to spread news. All in all, the difference in the goal is on how many people the company wants to reach. Hope this helped :))

A journalist independent company in contrast to the mainstream media has his own opinion, he may be dependent on the editor, who also can have his own point of view and, finally, he depends on the audience, which broadcasts. But The goal to reach much more number of people.
