Two different plants grow each year at different rates, which are represented by the functions f(x) = 4xand g(x) = 5x + 2. What is the first year the f(x) height is greater than the g(x) height?

Answer:

the correct answer is year two,

Explanation:

where the heck did the other person get ( > ) symbols from lol?? thats not even in the equation

my explanation

f(x)=4^x

f(2)=4^2

f(2)=16

g(x)=5x+2

g(2)=5*2+2

g(2)=12

The question is related to inequalities . Here we have to find the value of x for which f(x) is greater than g(x) . That is

f(x)>g(x)

Substituting the values of f(x) and g(x)

4x > 5x +2

Now we need to keep x terms on same side. So we need to move 5x to the left side by subtracting 5x from both sides. That is,

4x-5x>5x+2-5x

-x>2

Now we need to get rid of minus sign and for that we need to multiply by minus one to both sides which change the sign of the inequality. That is ,

x <-2
