Say if the events are independent or dependent. Explain your reasoning.

A small box is filled with 50 marbles. There are 15 red marbles, 15 blue marbles, 10 purple marbles, 5 yellow marbles, and 5 black marbles in the box. A yellow marble is drawn from the box, is not replaced, and then a black marble is drawn.

Question 2 options:

The events are independent, because the events affect each other.

The events are dependent, because the events affect each other.

The events are independent, because the events do not affect each other.

The events are dependent, because the events do not affect each other.

This is like the coin problem. If you start a coin toss by getting one heads and then wonder if the next toss will be heads or tails, the next toss does NOT depend on what happened previously. Both heads and tails are equally likely, just as they were before you took your first toss.

So the answer to this is C <<<<< answer

Once you put the yellow marble back in the probability of drawing each of the colors remains what it was before you drew your first marble.

5/50 * 5 / 50 = 1/100
