The nickname the “Nationalists” was deemed unfitting for the Federalist Party because Americans were wary of creating a system of government similar to the British.

The Federalist Party was created in opposition to the Democratic-Republican Party in America under President George Washington’s rule.

The Federalists called for a strong national government that boosted economic growth and promoted friendly relationships with Great Britain and opposition to Revolutionary France.

The moniker the "Nationalists" was considered unfitting as a name for the Federalist Party because the Americans were very cautious of creating a system of Government similar to the British. Americans wanted a government with limited power to avoid the tyranny and abuses similar to those of the British
