Final answer:

To find the distance between two buildings on a map with a scale of 1 inch to 0.5 mile, you can use a proportion. For buildings 2.3 miles apart in real life, the map distance is 9.2 inches when rounded to the nearest tenth.

Step-by-step explanation:

To calculate the distance between two buildings on a map given the scale, you can set up a proportion. The scale is 1 inch : 0.5 mile. So if two buildings are 2.3 miles apart in real life, the distance on the map can be determined by the following proportion:

1 inch / 0.5 mile = x inches / 2.3 miles

To solve for x (the distance on the map), cross-multiply and divide:

x = (2.3 miles * 1 inch) / 0.5 mile

x = 4.6 inches / 0.5

x = 9.2 inches

Rounded to the nearest tenth of an inch, the distance on the map would be 9.2 inches.

Im not too sure but I think its 4.6,because 1 in :.5 mile. As a whole, .5 can go into 2, 4 times, then whats left over also gets divided into .6. Add those together and youll get 4.6
