Simplify:

14x - (2y + x)

Distribute the negative sign:

= 14x + - 1(2y + x)

= 14x + - 1(2y) + - 1x

= 14x + - 2y + - x

Combine like terms:

= 14x + - 2y + - x

= (14x + - x) + ( - 2y)

= 13x + - 2y

Answer: 13x - 2y

Hope that helps!!!!! (Answer: 13x - 2y).
