Plot the vertices, and you'll see that the triangle is a right triangle with one vertical side and one horizontal side.

Area of a triangle = (1/2) x height x base, so in this case,

Area = (1/2) x 5 x 4

Area = 10

So the formula for the area of a triangle is
A=(1)/(2) bh (b = base, h = height). In this case, by counting from (-3,-3) to (-3,2) the height is 5 and the base is 4 counting from (-3,2) to (1,2).

Using this info, we can form the equation
A=(1)/(2) *4*5 and solve from there.

A=(1)/(2) *4*5\\ A=(1)/(2) *20\\ A=10
